An HTML widget is a snippet of HTML code that can be customized to provide a specific function in a display. They can add functionality to result list displays and detail displays and a single widget can be used for either display. They can be assigned to multiple displays within a single profile or across multiple profiles. Enterprise includes the RefWorks and COinS widgets to give your patrons access to citation services through Portfolio. You can also create your own custom HTML widgets to include in displays.

To create or edit an HTML widget, you should be proficient with HTML and Javascript.

HTML Widgets List

Displays the HTML widgets that your library has defined for its system.

This list displays the following information for each HTML widget.

Option

Description

Code

Displays a unique code for the widget (up to 30 characters).

Name

Displays the name of the widget (up to 80 characters).

Description

Displays a brief explanation of the purpose of the widget.

Compatibility

Displays whether the widget is enabled for Desktop Only, Mobile Only, or both Desktop and Mobile.

Management options

Lets you manage HTML widgets by adding, editing, or deleting them.

You can choose these options to manage detail displays:

Add HTML Widget

Creates a new HTML widget. (For more information, see Adding or editing an HTML widget.)

Import HTML Widget

Imports a file containing the information for an HTML widget. (For more information, see Importing an HTML widget.)

Edit

Modifies the selected HTML widget. (For more information, see Adding or editing an HTML widgetAdding or editing a detail display.)

Export HTML Widget

Exports the information for an HTML widget into a download file. (For more information, see Exporting an HTML widget.)

Delete

Removes the selected HTML widget. (For more information, see Deleting an HTML widget.)
